Combine gin and vermouth in a cocktail mixing class. Add ice and stir until chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Strain and refrigerate until chilled, about 30 minutes, and up to 2 weeks. To prepare cocktail: Fill a shaker half full with ice.
